How to get named in AI answers instead of your competitors
Ask AI “which one is good?” and it reads comparison posts and lists, then answers. If your name is not on those pages, it is not in the answer. Here are the steps a small team can do, in order.
What decides who gets named?
AI does not answer from memory alone. It searches the web, reads pages, and then answers. It often reads posts that compare options and list them in a table.
We saw this on ourselves. When the question did not have our name, FwdLink was named in 0 of 39 answers. The AIs named other tools, listed in comparison posts on other companies’ blogs. See how we checked.
The second thing is your own site. When it says who you serve, what it costs and shows an example, the AI can say it right.
Three kinds of help
- Measurement tools show whether AI names you, and which pages it read. See the 12-tool comparison.
- GEO agencies and consultants: people who write and fix pages for you.
- Measure-and-fix services, like FwdLink: they check the answers, draft the fix, and check again.
Four steps a small team can do
- Write 5 to 10 questions a shopper would ask, without your company name. Ask them to ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity, and write down which pages each answer used.
- Get your facts onto those pages, or publish your own answer page: a short answer, a comparison table, an FAQ and a visible updated date.
- Make your own site say who you serve, what you charge, and show one real example.
- Write down what you changed and when. Ask the same questions again after 2 to 4 weeks. Ask twice each time, because AI answers change on their own.
How FwdLink does this
The first check is free. It asks up to 10 questions to 4 AIs, twice each, and shows the pages each answer used.
The Improvement package is $149 for 60 days. It drafts a fix for every task and checks again 2 and 4 weeks after each change you record.
To keep going, the Improvement plan is $99/month: a check every month, and again after each change. See pricing.
